Mind Reader

You are late for school and your tie is missing. No worries. You just turn on a “device.” It scans your brain and shows you where you left your tie. Problem solved! You may have seen many more interesting situations in sci-fi films. But now it is a step closer to reality!
A team of scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, has built a device that can read brains! When you look at something, the device studies blood flow in your brain and shows the object as your brain sees it. It is almost always right and scientists are very excited about it. The technology used for this feat is called MRI or functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The idea of taking a photo of the human brain was a wonder at one time. Now you can film it! Scientists believe that the device can be used to diagnose diseases, revive a memory and even predict dreams. This means that you see your dream on a screen before you dream it at night!
Of course, there are risks. People might be forced to remember something that they want to forget. Or people’s secrets may be revealed when they want them to remain, well…secrets. And you may want to enjoy the suspense of a dream and not watch it beforehand! So care is very important. But the future of “mind reading” looks more exciting than ever!
